A typical work day in the studio always begins with a couple of cups of coffee. Then I'll take an hour or so to revisit the previous day's work, followed by a short period of reflection to just be still and appreciate the moment.
If I'm struggling with a painting I won't overthink it. I will intentionally make destructive changes to create a fresh direction. This tends to open up new paths of creativity rather than continuing to pursue something that has limited potential. I try not to let intimate details dictate my visual direction for I found this usually leads to frustration and more or less a creative dead end. My aim is for a free and fluid process and to visualize beyond the constraints of the canvas. Ultimately I want to reveal my subconscious world through an unfiltered presentation of my emotions and experiences.
Generally, I work fast but occasionally a painting will stare me down for a period of time. Then in a spontaneous surge of cathartic energy, resolution will occur the birth of a new piece.
Change can be so slow that you don't even notice that your life better or worse, until it is. Or it can just blow you away, make you something different in an instant.
